A Legacy for London
As host city for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, all eyes are on London to deliver the best games the world has ever seen. For most, the 2012 Games are not just about putting on the biggest sporting event on earth. They are about securing a true legacy for Londoners.

With a rapidly emerging world class sports facilities infrastructure which will form part of London’s legacy of the 2012 Games, it is essential that London rises to the challenge of becoming a leading sporting capital.

Meeting the Competition Needs of Sport in London
It is of paramount importance that our governing bodies of sport, sports clubs and events organisers have a skilled paid as well as volunteer workforce capable of meeting the competition needs of the capital.

Official Sports London is a unique and exciting new bursary scheme developed by the London Development Agency and Sport England to help do just this. It aims to increase the number, diversity and skills base of sport’s technical officials across a range of different sports in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Official Sports London has been developed in close association with its 19 participating national governing bodies of sport. This will ensure that our funding will help to meet their strategic needs for more and better skilled sports officials in London in the lead up to 2012.

Bursary Strands
There are two strands to the bursary, a general fund and a fast track fund:

General Fund - The vast majority of applications will come through the general fund. Official Sports London enables individuals to apply for financial support towards the costs of attending an officiating training course and undertaking a mandatory 15 hours of voluntary officiating experience in London.

Fast Track Fund - Only individuals nominated by their governing body of sport can apply through this fund. Individuals will be existing high level officials. They will be selected for their potential to officiate to an International Level in time to make them eligible for selection to officiate at the 2012 Games. Official Sports London enables these individuals to apply for officiating training courses and officiating experience at the highest level.

Actively Seeking Applicants
Official Sports London is actively seeking applications from both new and existing officials from within the 33 London Boroughs. This is an outstanding opportunity to put your passion for sport into practice and improve your chances of officiating and volunteering at the London 2012 Games.
